Our Teaching Approach

Three principles apply to every class at Al Hujurat, whichever course you choose. Below them you'll find exactly how a lesson runs, how scheduling works, and what happens when a class is missed.

One-to-one, never group

Every lesson is a private session between one student and one teacher. Nobody waits their turn, and the pace follows the student rather than a class average.

  • Every session is one student and one teacher.
  • Mistakes are corrected in the moment rather than saved for later.
  • Nothing gets skipped because the rest of a group has moved on.
  • A difficult section can be repeated as many times as it takes.

Male and female teachers

You can request a male or female teacher when you sign up, subject to availability, so the arrangement suits your family.

  • Both male and female teachers are available.
  • State your preference when you enquire.
  • Requests are honoured subject to availability.
  • The trial classes are the point to tell us if the match is not right.

Adapted to age and pace

Lessons are shaped around the student's age, current level and attention span — from a five-year-old learning letters to an adult revising Tajweed.

  • Starting point is set during the trial classes, not assumed.
  • A young child and an adult do not get the same lesson structure.
  • The 30-minute length keeps young learners engaged without fatigue.
  • Pace is reviewed as the student progresses.

How Classes Actually Work

How a class runs

  • Lessons are held online via Zoom or Google Meet.
  • Each class is 30 minutes, one student with one teacher.
  • Teachers can share learning materials on screen during the class.
  • Students are welcome to use their own Quran, Qaida or preferred materials.
  • You need an internet connection and a suitable device; occasional technical problems may mean a class is rescheduled.

Scheduling and missed classes

  • Regular classes run 5 days per week.
  • Times are arranged around both student and teacher availability.
  • Students may request up to 2 rescheduled classes per month.
  • If a teacher misses a class, you are entitled to a replacement, with no fixed limit.
  • Replacement classes are not held for announced public or statutory holidays.

Tracking progress

  • Parents may request periodic progress reports.
  • Corrections happen live in each class rather than being saved for a report.
  • Pace is reviewed as the student improves, and the plan adjusts with it.
  • Progress depends on attendance, effort and revision — we don't promise a completion date or a memorization result.

Safeguarding and registration

  • A parent or guardian must register any student under 18.
  • We accept children from around age 5.
  • Registration is subject to teacher and schedule availability.
  • Our safeguarding standards for classes involving children are published in full.

Questions About Teaching

Are classes ever taught in a group?
No. Every class is one-to-one — one student and one teacher for the full 30 minutes.
Can I choose a male or female teacher?
Yes. Both male and female teachers are available, and you can state a preference when you enquire, subject to availability.
What if the teacher isn't the right fit?
The three trial classes exist for exactly this. Tell us during the trial period and we will look at the options with you.
What language are classes taught in?
All classes are taught in English, so students from anywhere in the world can join.
